Description

Zinc borate is an environmentally friendly, non-halogen flame retardant that is non-toxic, has low water solubility, high thermal stability, small particle size, low density, and good dispersibility. When heated to a certain temperature, zinc borate decomposes and releases crystal water, which absorbs heat and cools down as well as dilutes oxygen in the air. At high temperatures, zinc borate decomposes to form B₂O₃, which adheres to the surface of polymers to create a covering layer. This layer can inhibit the generation of flammable gases and prevent oxidation and thermal decomposition reactions. Applications

It can serve as a multifunctional synergistic additive for antimony oxide or other halogen-based flame retardants, effectively enhancing flame retardancy, reducing smoke generation during combustion, and regulating the chemical and mechanical properties of rubber and plastic products. As a partial or complete environmentally friendly alternative to halogen-containing flame retardants, it is widely used directly in the processing of plastic and rubber products, such as PVC, PE, PP, reinforced polyamide, chlorinated polyolefin, polystyrene, epoxy resin, polyester vinyl ester resin, as well as natural rubber, styrene-butadiene rubber, and chloroprene rubber. It can also be applied in the production of paper, textiles, decorative panels, linoleum, wallpaper, carpets, ceramic glazes, disinfectants, and coatings to improve flame retardancy.
